It has been a long, tiring week.
Ronny & Amy (our bestest neighbor's ever) headed to Houston on Monday so that they could be there for Ronny's dad's surgery. The kids stayed with us and suddenly we were a family of seven! It wasn't as difficult as it was tiresome. Reminding my own children to go bathe and brush hair & teeth can be cumbersome. Reminding five kids to do it is ridiculous to the point of laughter. Add one sick kid and it is bordering insanity.
Monday night we ate hot dogs for dinner.
On paper plates.
It was supposed to be a gathering of sorts for the birthday boy, but since he got sick....
After dinner, Gavin asked if I was "really gonna cook" the next night. I suppose I didn't realize how much I had to live up to when the neighbor kids are here. Seventy five percent of the time dinner for them is a well thought out gourmet meal. Sheesh, what was I thinking taking on such a challenge!?
On Wednesday, Alex made it back to school to get his ribbon and pass out cupcakes.
But it was short lived.
He puked again that night.
But, not before having a bath. Once out of the tub I realized neither of the boys had washed their hair. We pressed Gavin about it and he insisted he washed his hair even though when I ran my fingers through his curls not a wet hair could be found. We asked him which shampoo he used. He stammered but said it was the one in the green bottle. I cornered his now sick-o cohort to see if he would rat him out and sure enough he said he nor Gavin had shampooed. Aha! When Gavin got caught, his response was quite humorous, "What? Ohhhh, you asked me if I washed my hair? Oh...no. I didn't wash my hair. I thought you were asking me if I......"
Kids.
There's nothing like having a teenager in your house. It was as if we were looking into a crystal ball and peeking into the future. Keely is so high tech...watching television while the laptop is at arms length, a single earpiece in her left ear lest she miss some gossip going on around her that she can eavesdrop with her right ear and her cell phone at her side. This is teenage multitasking at its finest.
:)
Today is quiet.
The older kids went to Houston last night to spend the weekend with family. It was only three days and I was really only in charge of food prep and dishes and personal hygene although I was not required to do laundry. (Phew!)
It was tiresome.
But I do miss the chaos of a house of seven.
Happy Friday! :)

Can you imagine what the Mom of 14 will have to deal with. BTW - I wonder why my town (?) does not show up on the Live Traffic Feed? I LOVE YOU - Mom

You've had quite the week. Curse those stomach bugs! They're bad enough, but to arrive on birthdays is just plain rotten. I guess 1000 miles is nothing for them to travel. I hope the rest of your week went ok & that the big blowout party was a blast! Emi says happy birthday to Alex.
